I’m very very new to using VMWare. We just deployed an ESXi 3.5 on some really old hardware for testing purposes and I needed something to export a VM and couldn’t find it in the Infrastructure Client. So I found this and thought someone might like it.

I thought it was pretty handy.
BTW, I was digging though the books at Amazon last night. Does anyone have an recommendation on which one would be good for ESXi since I'm sure I'm not getting them to pay for any training any time soon.
I was thining this one:

You should be able to use VMware Converter to "convert" the VM to other storage.Good luck to all! -

Ya sorry, I linked the wrong one. I changed the link in the original post.
This is the one I used.

Just remember, FastSCP is faster than standard SCP clients because it does not encrypt the data transfers. If that's okay in your scenario, go for it.Good luck to all! -

Is security really a concern with VM’s when transferring? I mean ya security is always a concern, but isn’t packet sniffing and gleaning the data from an entire VM in transfer be something that would take a while to do? -

Besides I don't think you can sniff a lot from the 40GB (or more) flat file .. which is all you transfer at the end ..My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -

Guys, it's unencrypted. You HAVE the VMDK potentially if you man-in-the-middled the transfer. Mount it and viola. You got the data in the vmdk. If that's sensitive date, you're in trouble.
VMDK's aren't encrypted either unless you used something to encrypt the data within it.
I'm not saying this is a huge risk. Just saying, know FastSCP is not an encrypted file transfer.Good luck to all!
