CSU/DSU and labs

Is there anything different when working with a CSU/DSU WIC in a lab setting? 1T and 2T serial WICs are pretty straight forward but I'm not sure if there would be anything different when using a CSU/DSU WIC. You would just need another CSU/DSU on the other router and run a ethernet cable to the other CSU/DSU card?

With that in mind, $75 dollars for a 2610XM and a CSU/DSU WIC sounds like a pretty good deal, right?

Yes, WIC-1DSU-T1 cards can be lashed up back to back just like WIC-1T and WIC-2T sync serial cards.

You will need to make a T1 crossover cable:
    1
    4
    2
    5
    4
    1
    5
    2

Then set one side of the link to use the internal clock source:

    R1(config-if)#service-module t1 clock source internal

$75 isn't a bad deal at all for a 2610xm. I've seen prices a little better, and I've seen folks pay a lot more. I just payed $70 shipped last week for a 2610xm with no cards, 48mb (max) flash, and 128mb of ram. I figured it was 2x64mb dimms, and would need a bootrom upgrade to do 256mb, but when I cracked it open today it had it was 1x128mb with the bootrom upgrade! Added a 128mb stick and I was good to go. icon_thumright.gif

Cool, thanks for the fast reply. I just got a email back from them saying it was a WIC-2t and they made a mistake in saying it was CSU.

They want $100 for both the card and router, maybe I should try $80?

It comes with 96 MB of ram and 32 MB flash, how many slots are available? I sounds like it has a 64 and a 32 dimm installed right now.

I'm starting to think I should just save my money for switches and dynamips the routers, it may head to the 300 dollar range by looking at the way things are going.

If it is 96MB then is 64+32. A 2600XM has 2 memory slots and 1 flash slot. The boot ROM is in a socket.

If you want to have >128MB memory in total then you need the latest boot ROM.

One of my 2600XM routers had the updated boot ROM so I upgraded them all myself with an EEPROM programmer. You can either erase the old EEPROM or use a new one.

Aren't 2610XMs supposed to come with a default of 128D/32F?

Damn pirates hording RAM from routers before selling them!

I have another 2610xm that came straight from Cisco with 96M/32F. There was a 32 meg dimm and a 64 meg dimm. It also had the older (7r) bootroms. I guess my point is that they came in a variety of memory configurations from Cisco throughout their production life.

That WIC-2T is worth the extra $25 IMHO. I have three and have been trying to score up two more to complete my BSCI lab, and it looks like I will probably end up paying $30-35 each shipped unless I am patient with eBay, which I am not. icon_twisted.gif
