Road to MCITP: EA, 70-620 finished.

Sat the 70-620 today and was successful with an 828. I had a really hard time studying for this one to be honest, not because it's difficult by any means but because I really had a very hard time becoming even remotely interested in the material. The only thing that carried me through was wanting the MCITP: EA and it being one of the requirements, I almost wish I would have taken the deployment exam, but I already had the MS Press 70-620 book so I gruelingly went through it anyways.

Study materials included the first 3 chapters of the MS Press book, I was literally being put to sleep. Also went through the TestOut 70-620 CBT in it's entirety once and went through the practice exam on it 4 or 5 times. I probably could have used a but more reading from the MS Press book on the parts of Vista I don't use much (meeting space, etc).

On to focusing the bulk of my efforts on the 70-640 while doing a bit of study for the Windows 7 client beta exam and the Server+ beta exam which are all upcoming this month as well.

Feels good to have one under my belt though. Oddly enough I've been around the industry for over 9 years, the first 2/3's of that spent mostly in the small business sector and the last third spent at a larger corporation but I haven't completed any certifications up until now. Haven't had the need really since I've acquired my jobs through business relationships, but I've been encountering problems working further up with a lot of other candidates having degrees and certs. That began my journey to complete my B.S. which will be finished up in several months as well as getting some certs :)

Congrats on getting a cert before your 500th post! icon_cheers.gif

Hopefully the subsequent ones come a bit quicker! ;)

    Congrats on the pass.

I agree on the 620 ms press book. Probably the worst exam prep book ive ever read, and that includes a couple of Mike Meyers POS books.

Im gonna start studying for 640 myself after wednesday (thats when i take the 7 beta) and i hope its book is much better. I also have ExamCram for it and looking at getting TrainSignal.

Looks like we are going down similar paths, on a similar timeframe.

You still planning on sitting the 70-652 HyperV exam?

Eventually going to sit the HyperV exam, going to try and focus my efforts on the MCITP: EA rather than individual MCTS certs such as the HyperV here and there. I have the MS Press training kit for the remainder of the track. TestOut covers some of it, but I think I'm going to consider TrainSignal. TestOut really messed up a decent product I think with their most recent release. All of the record keeping is web based, and it takes an incredible amount of time to load some of the static pages in the CBT's at times.

Just need to get the TrainSignal Complete Training external drive approved so I can expense that out :D

congrats. planin to take 70-620 sometime this week. I thought it was so retarded learning windows mail (who uses this crap), remote support (i'll be surprised if a grandma can use this), and xbox360. waiting for free voucher to arrive in the mail.

Have you looked at CBT Nuggets and their streaming subscription?

I might give it consideration again, one of the reasons I liked Trainsignal is they have the videos for portable devices available so I would be able to watch them on my iPod touch while I travel. The only thing that was limiting me from the streaming subscription was the requirement of an Internet connection, even though most of the time I would have access to one. For the money though, it's a great value - if I could go back in time a couple of months, I would have skipped the TestOut suite and gone with a year of the CBT Nuggets streaming.

You can get monthly ones too. If you can get a month here or there and plow through two or three series in that time, it's a tremendous value.
