OSPF Election Process

Hey guys I am a little confused with OSPF election process of DR and BDR.
When I was doing my lab I went and configured a loopback/RID of 11.11.11.11, it automatically did stuff in the background and became the DR.
My question is what is used to elect a DR and BDR? I am aware the priority and it looks like they're default at 1, and also aware that if I change the IP OSPF Priority to 0 it will automatically make a router as a DROTHERS.
Is it the RID/Neighbor ID aka Loopback/Interface IP address that gets determined on who becomes the DR and BDR?
Thanks!

Thanks I reinforced it by reading OSPF DR and BRD Elections by Sybex, it made it clear to me.
