Does SSL need port 80 open as well or only 443?

Like anything, that's just the default port. You can probably configure whatever you're using to use a port of your choosing. -

Indeed, if you run a website on 8080 there is no need to open anything else either.
UNLESS : You have a redirect page which forwards every HTTP request to HTTPS, then you would need to open port 80 too, otherwise the redirect won't work.My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -
