Is this a major part on the exam? I haven't herd anyone who's taken the exam say they received any questions on this particular subject. Are they Sim's associated with SDM, should we know how to create access list, VPN's or other functionality with this GUI?

Thanks in advance for you help...

I'd plan on anything on the objectives as being fair game for an SDM sim.

My experience with SDM is that it's pretty easy to fumble through a task if you know what you're doing. However, you probably don't want to spend a lot of time on the exam digging through menus trying to find what you're looking for, so you should familiarize yourself with it as much as possible.

Check the Exam Blueprint for which ever exam you are taking.

You will find SDM (and tasks) listed under the topics for the exam. But also make sure you read the disclaimer about the topics just being a guide and that there could be changes, etc, yada yada yada.

There is also the matter of "luck of the draw" on questions. Be prepared for any of the exam topics (and everything closely related to the exam topics) -- and if you feel a topic wasn't tested on YOUR EXAM, count your blessings. But it doesn't mean that the next person isn't going to get hammered on that topic on THEIR EXAM.

The reason you haven't heard anyone (here) who's taken the exam say anything about exam questions on a particular subject (or talk about what they saw on the exam, like the SIMs) is that it would be a violation of the Cisco Candidate Conduct Policy and the Cisco Non Disclosure Agreement.

    Cisco Candidate Conduct Policy
No candidate will take any action that will compromise the integrity or confidentiality of a Cisco Certification examination or otherwise compromise the integrity of the Cisco Certification program. Such actions include but are not limited to:
    • Disseminating actual exam content via web postings, discussion groups, chat rooms, study guides, etc.
Cisco Career Certifications and Confidentiality Agreement
You agree that the contents of the exam are confidential and that the disclosure of that information could compromise the integrity of the Program and of Certifications. Cisco makes exams available to you solely to test your knowledge of the exam subject matter for which you seek Certification. You are expressly prohibited from disclosing, publishing, reproducing, or transmitting any exam and any related information including, without limitation, questions, answers, worksheets, computations, drawings, diagrams, length or number of exam segments or questions, or any communication, including oral communication regarding or related to the exam (known collectively as “Proprietary Information”), in whole or in part, in any form or by any means, oral or written, electronic or mechanical, for any purpose, without the prior express written permission of Cisco.

The books I've read for the new CCNA-Security focus heavily on the SDM including VPN configurations. Because of that I would doubt you would see much on the CCNA

As per the exam blueprint, you need to know how to use SDM and the CLI on the CCNA.

I would look at SDM to be familiar with the GUI.

If Cisco puts it on the exam blueprint, it's fair game.

SDM, not so sure, but CLI you definitely need to know.

As abhustler has mentioned above, it is more of a CCNA:Sec topic than a CCNA, I currently going through it while studying for CCNA: Sec.
