Scored a 2610. Have 2 questions

I am very new to Cisco, but have been through the first 14 CBT nuggets for ICND1.
I noticed a 2610 lying around at work, and my boss said I can have it. Nice timing as I spent all day yesterday looking at gear on eBay for a starter home lab!!
The only Cisco gear in operation at my workplace belongs to our ISP (1 1800 series) and nobosy here knows any Cisco stuff.
My questions are:
How do I "Take ownership" of the router? Ideally without wiping it (see next question) I don't have any passwords for the device.
I would like to backup the config on this router in case I ever have to hand it back (unlikely though). Is this possible?
If the answer is "Go and learn some more about Cisco, young Grasshopper" then fair enough. Just wondering if someone had the time to get me started, I'm excited with my new toy but it's a brick to me at the moment!

Password Recovery Procedures - Cisco Systems
then you can copy the config anyway you want
shout if you get stuckif I say something that can be taken one of two ways and one of them offends, I usually mean the other one :-) -
steve_f Member Posts: 97 ■■□□□□□□□□Thanks, that worked.
Picked up a very cheap 2501, and about to buy a 2950, should be enough to get me started anyway!!
Now the hard part, start hitting the books! -
PC509 Member Posts: 804 ■■■■■■□□□□Hey, with a real lab it's not hard hitting the books and trying stuff out. In fact, it's addicting. I find that working with Cisco stuff is fun.
Good luck! And, remember the config register information you used, it comes up on the exam, I believe (it has in my practice exams, and in the objectives).
