Quick question on WIC-1T cards

With regards to WIC-1T 1 Port Serial Module cards in Cisco routers what function would they provide in modern business networks? This might sound like a daft question but I can't get my head around what you would use one of these for.
There are always quite a few WIC-1T cards on ebay with plenty of bids normally - plus the ICND1 book details the config etc of these. I thought it was all DSL cards now?

It gives you a serial port to simulate a leased line in your lab. If you have a CSU/DSU + leased line then you could use it in real life.

we actually use the WIC-1DSU-T1-V2. I dont know if the serial ones are used much any more or not in real world, but like tiersten said, it gives you a serial port to configure in your home lab.
