what does the "$" mean in the network address:

\\host_name\location$

I think I got jewed for this question.. and I couldn't find the answer

It means it is a hidden share. Doesnt show up in the list of available shares on host_name.

For example, all machines will share the root directory as c$ and the system directory as admin$. You'll need local admin rights to access them however.
