does anyone want to double-check my understanding of the dual state machine?

It took me a few minutes to understand what was going on in Doyle's figure in the book. I'm blogging stuff I have issues with after I figure them out. Maybe someone can double-check what i've written to make sure i'm not spreading incorrect information? Thanks. :P
