Have you ever worked at a place where there is one to three guys ( or gals) that have been around the company since the early days but whose careers have stopped at managing operations or managing the network group and they are all swamped all the time and as a result feel like they never have to answer their phone or return an email? And that over the years this core group of unreachable individuals has managed to assume and consolidate all control and documentation for all IT systems in your enterprise resulting in all of your assigned tasks dying at their desk because of their reluctance to give up even a shred of information or even the time of day in most cases because you aren't one of the "elite?" And have you also found that this same group of individuals are almost untouchable in your enterprise because thanks to their knowledge hording, they have made their jobs indispensable and maintain a demeanor that is so condescending and obnoxious that senior management can't find anybody who is willing to work directly with them long enough to be able to back them up should one of them kick the bucket one day? I hate it when this happens.
