Hey, not going out for my Net+ certification...yet...but I do have a question. It should be easy but for some reason my book doesn't explain it to well. Just wondering if someone wouldn't mind helping me out a little.
Describe the role of the default gateway in routing incoming or outgoing IP packets.
I assume the default gateway is just a router and all it does is route the packets to whatever computer they need to go to...but I don't think my professor will accept that answer. Would someone mind explaining it to me a little better?
Thanks so much,
Erica

Probaby not much simpler explanation than that - though I often think of a default gateway on a LAN as "the way out."
Normally, the default gateway for a LAN is going to be the ethernet IP of the first router out to the internet, or the ethernet IP of a firewall. -
