M$ Server 2003 Licenses

Does anyone know about M$ 2003 licesing, how does it work? If you have 5 licenses are they for connections for 90 days? What if you lose a system or two, do you have to wait for the 90 days to expire before you can connect other systems?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure it means you can have 5 simutaneous connections.

So if you loose a computer (i.e. its not connected) you can simply connect another computer no prob as the server will still see 5 or less connections.

I could be wrong tho - but does this make sense?

You would think that that way would make sense, but I was told the other way, which doesn't seem right. That's why I'm inquiring.
