Learning CAs

I've in a rut trying to figure out certificates. Going through the usual media is all nice but I can't grasp it as being any more than a concept.
Just wondering if anyone knew any sites/material that can communicate CAs a bit more clearly (not Technet, MSPress).

This is a really good book on PKI/CAs as well: Amazon.com: Microsoft Windows Server(TM) 2003 PKI and Certificate Security (Pro - One-Offs) (9780735620216): Brian Komar, Microsoft Corporation: Books -

It REALLY helps if you set up your own CA and practice. The MS books come with the 180-day evaluation copy. Set it up and practice configuring the Root CA, set up certs, a GPO to automatically enroll.
ps. I have some good hands-on labs for CAs, which helped me a lot. PM your email and I can send them to you. -

Y'know I guess I can't even explain what it is I don't know. At work we have an Ent CA server and a GPO with autoenroll enabled. I get all that; I don't know what the sequence of steps to receive a cert is or the peices all fit in the network framework.
Guess I just need to study the subject more. Technet did nothing for me and websites all give the same info, I'm just not getting it yet. Cheers for the refs; I'll check out the Syngress book. It's served me well in past exams.
