Hi all, I just joined the forums and I am getting ready to do CCNA by then end of the year. I am looking to purchase a used cisco router for my studies and I have no clue which model to get. I looked on wikipedia and according to the article the current cisco ios version is 12.4(24)T, will I need the current version for the exam; and will I also need a switch to configure as well?

if you want to do some decent labbing you need 3 switches and 4 routers ( one Frame Relay Switch and three other spoke routers)
You can check the cisco feature navigator to see what IOS image supports what features Cisco Feature Navigator - Cisco Systems
12.4 and above will suffice for ccna labs.
There are lots of vendors on Ebay that offer kits.

Although I would have loved to have a frame relay switch to practice on...

I know the 3640 is a good FR switch.

Do yourself a favor and do some research on what you'll need for the various levels. Then buy it piecemeal through eBay. Most of the kit vendors are selling old stuff that is way overpriced. Not to say it won't work for you or that they are crooks. But if you have a ton of money to spend on a kit, give me a pm and we can talk turkey. icon_lol.gif
