what does it take to be a "network engineer"
Danh
I've seen job postings for these positions. I'm a sysadmin right now (if you call it that?). I add/delete users from active directory, edit GPOs, build servers, desktop support.
At home I have an active directory box, dns server, dhcp server. No advanced settings on them really. DNS server is set to query my ISPs DNS server. I have 3 cisco routers, run VLANs, wan protocols etc. Working towards my CCNA. Then CCNP.
So what does it take to be a network engineer?

Years designing Cisco networks. Admins maintain while engineers create.

Both of what they say. You're on the right track if that's what you like to do. You can't create and engineer something you don't how to maintain and run. Keep practicing, and keep your resume fresh, someday, you'll get the call.
