You can download switch IOS from Cisco with a guest login. Depends on shipping charges if it's a good deal or not. That is about the price those are selling for these days.

for $46 (including shipping and 7 day warranty)

    I got 2 x 2950's for about 100$ shipped.

Remember - for the CCNA, you can get a 2950-12 and get just as much use out of it as a 24 port switch, and you can save some $.

I had my 2950-12 connected to a router, a laptop, and with a 3 port etherchannel to a 2950-24, and still had 7 ports left I didn't have a use for.

(EDIT) the price on the 48 port switch looks good.

    Great point!

The 48 port got away from me and eventually went for $153 + shipping. I started thinking along the same lines as your comment. Like, what do I need with 48 ports? 12 ports would serve me well and I can probably get it cheaper!

Everything else is equal, I would assume.
