VPN Issue

Ok so we have a couple of remote sales people and they connect via VPN (one built into XP). We just got a new sales rep in Canada and we are based in NJ. All the other reps have not had any issues with connecting and the speed of the connection. This rep in Canada says it takes a whole minute for our web client software to load up (it is a web based client to our unix based ERP system). Also, he can't get Outlook configured (as in it doesn't pull the server information automatically as if he was connected directly here). Any ideas?
