Well it has finally happened I interviewed for a job a little over two weeks ago and they are now sending me an offer letter. I have been unemployed since May and the job I had before that only lasted 4 months before it folded up. Before I had that job I was unemployed for a year....
I was even looking to move out of state to get a job because the market is so poor here. This job has been they only IT job to open here in months. The positon is a PC Specialist and they are starting me off at 35K a year plus benefits and 401K of course.
Just for others out there the things that set met apart from the other candidates was the fact they I have a telephone background which blends in well with networking. Also, I just happened to get my Network+ cert done the day before the interview and I took the sheet with me proving it and they were impressed by that. Also, they were impressed by the fact that even though I am unemployed I am looking at getting more certs. I told them that I have set personal goals for myself to be an MCP by the end of the year and to be an MCSA by the middle of 2005. They said that it showed that I was interested in the field and that I am trying to better myself and keep up with th trends in the market. So be sure to tell people during an interview that you are studying for more certs even though you dont have them yet and let them know that the more certs you have the better you can do the job the are looking to fill. Anyways I hope that this will help others out. Good luck....!

MPNX2 Member Posts: 29 ■■□□□□□□□□Yes I am quite excited. For me financally it is a huge step over the income I have made the past year. My fiance and I have been living of unemployment and then her salary of 28K a year....
I am gald that I decided to persue my certs it was a big factor in landing this job. I feel pretty confident on working on PC's but now I at least have a few crets to back that up and I will be gaining the experience that is needed to do well in this field. After I get my MCSA cert done I may go back to school and finish up my degree...
Thaks for the congrats all and thanks to you all for the help in getting my certs done! -

Well by cost of living if you mean what does housing cost I have a 2 bedroom 1 bath with an attached 2 car garage in a duplex for 450.00 a month. I pay all the utilites. You can get a really nice house here and probably even have one built for under 300K. But on the filpside to all of this I am in a small town of about 28K people so there is not much to do if you are young like me. I am 27. Although I am about 100 miles from LA or so....yes the weather is always quite nice but in the summer it gets to about 115deg... Anyways the name of the town is Ridgecrest CA...
Here are a few links abput the town...

Back in my native Denver, there's a lot of tech companies, which is a fair part of the reason I'm moving back there next Spring. However, there are still a lot of unemployed techs, or at least techs working at Starbucks to keep from being homeless.
It's tough out there, but keeping yourself prepared and furthering your goals counts for a lot and shows ambition. It seperates you from the people that just sit there and whine that they don't make 90k a year working at a .com anymore. Keep up the hard work!I do not have a psychiatrist and I do not want one, for the simple reason that if he listened to me long enough, he might become disturbed.
