Automatically starting VMs when ESXi 4 starts

Anyone know how to configure VMs to automatically start when ESXi 4.0 is booted? And to have this happen without using vSphere or any other non-free VM management packages?

In the vSphere client: go to the configuration tab for the host, on the left there should be something like "startup/shotdown of virtual machines", click that and go to properties.

That's from memory, so it's not exact, but it should get you there.

Wait, you want to do it without the vSphere client? So from the CLI?

I am using only the (free) vSphere Client to manage my ESXi 4 servers. I'm looking for a way to have VMs automatically start after ESXi 4 boots, and without needing to manually start the VMs using vSphere Client.

I can confirm, I actually just did that this morning on a standalone ESXi machine.
    IT guy since 12/00

Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
    Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
