I would like to know which one is the biggest, Oracle or microsoft? I am talking about Database software, of course.
A friend wanted me to ask here. He has some experience with Microsoft and was about to start the MCITP: DBA, but was suggested to check Oracle's options by soomebody in his company.

If he is doing sys admin work (windows) then knowing MS SQL would be ideal because so many of MS products have to run against an MS SQL DB. -

I've never seen any hard statistics, but I'm not sure that I'd even put Microsoft in third place in the professional side of that market...
MS
EDIT: "IDC's Worldwide Database Management Systems 2009–2013 Forecast and 2008 Vendor Shares[1] ranks Oracle database as the leader in DBMS marketing share, followed by IBM DB2 and then Microsoft SQL Server."
from Wikipedia....
EDITx2:
Now I've seen hard stats on this:
2007 Market Share:
Oracle - 44.3%
IBM - 21.0%
Microsoft 18.5%
I expected to see less of a gap between #1 and #2, and a bigger gap between #2 and #3.
Also surprised that the likes of Teradata and SAS are #5 and #6 respectively on the list in 2007.
Do all three and you'll have 80% of the market covered!
