Customer Portal

Our company is in the process of designing a customer portal. Our customers will be able to view and place new order. We expecting about 500 to 1000 customers. We will be placing SQL server in DMZ using ASA5510. The data will be replicated from the inside SQL server. We are thinking about placing a separate active directory in DMZ for authentication. Has anyone of you been involved in such a project. We want to make this as secure as possible. Do you think this a good way of doing this? Please , I would like to hear your ideas.
