2003 vs 2008 I have read the other threads

Greetings all:
I am trying to gauge a plan for next year. I will be enrolling in WGU's Net Admin degree. This degree requires MCITP:SA/EA or MCSA/E. Both would get me the credits I need. My question is this should I try to go for an MCSA then upgrade to SA or should I just start on the 2008 stuff. The company I work for would pay for either set and we are using server 2003 and 08 stuff here. I also use winXP/Vista and server 2003 at home. I have not used 08 at home or at work. Should I just go for the MCSA to MCITP:SA or should I just do the MCITP:SA/EA combo? Server 2003 is still being used out there but I know I don't want to go through an entire MCSE track when I could have a 2003 cert and a 2008 cert in less test. Like I said in another post, I am not really a wantabe M$ guy but I do need to get this done for school.
thanks,

I would go for the MCITP:SA as it will take fewer tests and will be easier. This does not mean it will be easy, I just mean the questions on the test will not be as long and confusing.

Sorry, nothing constructive to add...An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

Man Im going to WGU so I gotta do this stuff done. Sigh
And it was 3 years not 2.
Like I am still trying to find myself and where I want to go. In all honestly I know I want to do Networking but I need to do these M$ certs to get done with school (which to me is more important than my dislike of M$). Im still pretty young and I think that if I want to get to my ultimate goal (business owner) that the certs I get now will be less important than the knowledge I get now. For the next few years I plan to learn as much as I can about as much as I can. -

If you want to own a business, do a business degree. You'll more than likely find that when you're in that position, you're going to be managing the business, and not doing the down-and-dirty work. -

Well when you put it that way you make it seem so simple.
My whole thing is I would like to own a world-class IT consulting firm. That said, I know that won't happen tomorrow. I just wanted some BA or BS on my resume to help me now (and in the near future). I see WGU as a way to get that done. That said, I am not sure about the usefulness of the degree (at least for me, being a person who doesn't want to do MS) -

Then get a business degree with an emphasis in IT. You can always certifications later. To run a business you need a knowledge of accounting, knowledge of how a business should be run, and a little luck. If I remember correctly WGU has a business degree as well. If your are not interested in M$ then don't do it. You will just hate the whole process.

Robert,
I havent read up on any of the SA exam stories...but are you saying there is no "beast"? I saw that SA had a network infrastructure exam and just assumed that was it. -
dynamik Banned Posts: 12,312 ■■■■■■■■■□Dude, get some value out of your college education. If certs/IT happen to align with that, go for it. However, you shouldn't go out of your way for that. This stuff is a lot easier to pick up via self-study than other things. Don't waste your time with MS stuff if it doesn't interest you. That stuff will be outdated in 5-10 years anyway.

Keep in mind I did the exams when they were just out of beta and I did the upgrade. I took them just after having obtained my MCSE and was helping to teach some MCSA/E level classes. So a lot of info was very fresh for me. But no, I would say no beast. -
