Loop troubleshooting
Does anyone know how to troubleshoot a loop or see if one really exists. I started at a new company and there seems to be some slowness issues. This morning I tried to do a ping for a test and received a message back that the TTL expired in transit. Any debugging I should be doing to figure this out? Any help would be great.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Traceroute is a good place to start."Bribe is such an ugly word. I prefer extortion. The X makes it sound cool."

If you are getting TTL expired it may be getting routed back and forth between two devices. The traceroute should show you where. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made. -

If your switches are locking up you can unplug each IDF link until it returns to normal to isolate it in the building...well thats assuming its in one building/area.
Thats the redneck way our network team does it. -

show port statistics and see if any ports are reporting excessive traffic and/or spanning-tree issues. making a diagram helps too. -

That pointed it out exactly!!! I was trying to think to hard about it. Hate when that happens!
