Confused about new a+ 2009

Did comptia remove the 3 designations you had to choose from after passing the essentials and just made it one?

I notice in the previous version after you passed the essentials you chose a designation test to choose form. Now it seems you just take 2 tests. Do you still have to choose between IT, Depot and support?

It's down to just two tests for 2009 - Essentials (220-701) and Practical Application (220-702).

    CompTIA A+
The new A+ Essentials 220-701(2009) replaces the 601 Essentials exam
The A+ Practical Application, exam code 220-702(2009).
    Replaces the 220-602, 220-603, 220-604
The latest version of CompTIA A+ is CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition. Two exams are necessary to be certified: CompTIA A+ Essentials, exam code 220-701; and CompTIA A+ Practical Application, exam code 220-702.
CompTIA A+ Essentials measures the necessary competencies of an entry-level IT professional with a recommended 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. It tests for the fundamentals of computer technology, networking and security, as well as the communication skills and professionalism now required of all entry-level IT professionals.
CompTIA A+ Practical Application is an extension of the knowledge and skills identified in CompTIA A+ Essentials, with more of a "hands-on" orientation focused on scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to resolve problems.

Right, it's just a 2 exam path now. No one was taking depot technician.

It was a good idea in theory but the industry just didn't follow.
