MS press book error?

Hey Guys,

I have a slight issue here. I'm now getting around subnetting so I decided to do some of the questions in the book. Right so here is the issue and the question:

Here is the start IP - 206.73.118.0/24

Requirement = 20 hosts per subnet

Number of bits required for host ID =
Number of bits left for subnet ID =
Slash notation version of subnet mask =
Dotted-decimal version os subnet mask =
Right so here are my answers:

5
3
/29
255.255.255.248
Here are the books answers:

5
3
/27
255.255.255.224

To be honest I think I'm right. But would like to be put into my place if I'm not.

Regards

There are lots of errors in the ms press books and other publications related to IT. I believe there is a web site from ms thats shows the errors. Unfortunately i dont know the site of the top of my head.

Sorry to say, the book is right and you are wrong.

The books answer gives 8 possible subnets with 30 (32-2) hosts each. Your answer gives 32 subnets with 6 (8-2) hosts each.

Remember the bits to the left of the mask are the subnet bits and the bits to the right are the host bits.

If you suspect errors in a MS Press book, search for the book on Technet,

    70-291 - Microsoft TechNet Search

Most of the errors, if not all, have been corrected in later revisions.

Yeah never worked out the problem myself. Just know there are a few errors in some of the books.
