I would venture to say that if you are reading this now, and still have no experience and are relying solely on your degree to land you a job in 2018, you have other issues to worry about.
This article does seem to have a bit of a pretentious read to it. Almost as if they are saying if you do not have a degree, you will never work in an IT related positon.
It also almost reads as one of those "go get a degree, and you will earn buckets of money because you have a degree" commercials. I think many people fall into that same trap, expecting to hit a gold mine because they have a degree. Which in the real world, more often than not, is not the case.
Not knocking you or the article at all, it was an interesting read. I just don't agree with it on some points. However, I do agree with having to open yourself up to wear multiple hats, to fill multiple roles.
