Windows 7 "God Mode"

I tested this and it works as creating this folder in Windows 7 will place tons of shortcuts to edit all kinds of Windows 7 settings in that folder. It is pretty slick. Enjoy all.

Name the folder this:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Once this folder is created the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options on your Windows 7 machine.

    You can name it whatever you want, the important part is the .{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    Nice little trick, especially since I don't like the layout and navigation of the Vista and Windows 7 Control Panels. Looks like this 'feature' is also available for Vista and at least 2008 R2.

    What undomiel said. You're just giving it the GUID for the All Tasks shell folder. It was in one of the earlier betas but I think it disappeared around the time of the RC. The original person could have named it BallmerMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

    You're not actually getting anything extra that isn't already in the menu or control panel. It is just in one massive list.

    Since it is called god mode, cue the complaining about "Microsoft" using his name in vain and the zombie like nature of this tip since it will never ever die.

    I realize it is just a list of shortcuts but they used the name that Quake used to use in a mode called god mode.

    It could be handy having all the shortcuts in one place. Either way I am sure some people hadn't found it yet so I thought I would pass the information along here as well as my blog.

    'God mode' existed a long LONG time before Quake ;)
    We responded to the Year 2000 issue with "Y2K" solutions...isn't this the kind of thinking that got us into trouble in the first place?

    That is actually quite old and already exists since an early Beta of Vista :)

    Yes it was around in Vista but Vista sucks and who wants to have power in a crappy OS ;)

    It seems that the folks in Redmond have gotten a kick out of all the attention that the Godmode has gotten and have decided to have fun with it. Sinofsky sent a list of other commands that also create special folders (see list below).

    Given the Vista issues, though, I would try these only on a Windows 7 machine, ideally a test machine. To make it work, create a new folder with any name, then a period, then one of the text strings below.

    For example, the first one could be a folder named "thankscnet.{00C6D95F-329C-409a-81D7-C46C66EA7F33}" (use everything inside quotes--but not the quotes themselves).

    Here's the list of strings:

    Tried it on a SBS2008 server, i.e server 2008 and boy, not a good idea. explorer kept crashing !! could not do anything.

    Deleted the folder via another member server and all was ok.

    Will try it on Server 2008 R2 and "hope" it should be OK
