Domains, domains, and domains

Hi, guys

got stumbled on domain recently; no book actually explain anything about it, so I was wondering if anyone care to help out a little.

Here is the situation:

When you configure a router, you need to assign it a domain name. When you configure a DHCP pool, you need a domain name as well. When networks form a big internetwork, a domain name is also assigned to an autonomous system.
So, the problem is, do these domain have to the same? Or, are they different?

I've seen a couple examples that used something like 'myCCNA.local' as a domain name. How does this work? I mean, shouldn't it be something like 'google.com'? You know, like web addresses. How and why is it different from web domains??

Thanks a loticon_study.gificon_study.gif
