If the thread title reminds you of a song, you're probably really old! haha j/k of course!
I'm looking to get back into the IT world after a 7 month career change (yes it was very temporary). Prior to that I made my living in IT for some 12 years... Long ago I was an MCP (2005) is that thing still current? Is there a way I can verify this? Also, it seems the MCSE title has changed? Can someone point me in the right direction as for what certification I should pursue for Network Administration?
Can someone also tell me what practice exams and materials on the market are good ones to refer to? I remember using the Measure Up and Transcender exams and really liking those back in the day.
Thanks so much for any input!

Yeah, your MCP is still valid.
The new Microsoft certs are basically the MCITP generation. So you will be looking at the MCITP: Enterprise Administrator. Royal does a nice job of explaining the paths...

I know a lot of people use Measure Up. Transcender is still really good and highly recommended. Preplogic is another pretty good choice as well.WIP: CCENT/CCNA (.....probably) -

Thanks, I'll get started down that path...
Also, does my MCP from 2005 contribute towards any of the current MCITP certification?
And, do you think this is something that can be accomplished within 4 to 6 months? -

Curious, what exam did you pass for your MCP? Either way, I don't think it will count though since it was from 2005 and wasn't any of the Vista/Server 2008 stuff.
I'm sure if you have sufficient study time and/or experience this would be manageable. I haven't completed any of the MCITP stuff myself, but from what I gather it's very doable in that time frame.
Good luck!
EDIT: Here is the official site for the MCITP. http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcitp.aspx#tab2WIP: CCENT/CCNA (.....probably) -

Thank you very much! The MCP exam I passed was the XP Workstation exam.. Something along the lines of XP implementation etc... I was surprised to find the exam had a fair amount of networking questions...
I'm now understanding the MCITP stuff... I think I'd like to pursue the server administrator first just so I can have the MCITP title and then go after the enterprise aspect of it - which looks like it might be another 3 exams as one of the exams is not the same as the Server Administrator MCITP.
So, I'm thinking 3 exams... I can do that with the time I have in a couple of months.
So, where do you recommend I start? What's the best materials, the best exams... The best bang for the buck? I'd like to get the stuff ordered today so I can start studying.
I'm going to check out what Measure Up has to offer in the meantime... Oh and I'd really like some media as a learning tool... Something like a lecture or seminar on DVD or something to that effect.
Thanks so much for answering my questions, this is helping me out tremendously! -
NetAdmin2436 Member Posts: 1,076Best bang for the buck? Definitely check out the sticky notes on this site. There is a slew of links to technet which is great because it goes in depth and is free!

That alone is reading material for the next few months. And again, Transcender IT Certification Prep Training Products - Practice Exams and More is a great practice exam.WIP: CCENT/CCNA (.....probably) -

I'm looking at the the Transcender stuff and notice that it doesn't seem to have much on the 2008 stuff? Is the MCITP stuff so new that there's no practice exams for it yet? -
