Updating IOS on WS-C2924-XL-EN
dan87951
I have a 2924 switch and I decided to update the IOS to version "c2900xl-c3h2s-tar.120-5.WC9a.tar" the upload to the switch via tftp went fine and uploaded succesfully. however right after I uploaded it I issued the "reload" command and forgot to issue the "boot system flash" command. Now my switch can't find the IOS that I have installed. What can I do? I did the "dir flash:" command and found that my IOS is still compress as a .tar file, whats the deal with that? Shouldn't it be a .bin. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

you should have untarred the file. Tar is a unix specification for grouping multiple files in a single file or on a single medium. (TAR Tape ARchive). Inside of the tar file you would have found the bin file and probably some documentation to go along with it. You can use winzip (

) to get the files out. You need to go through the recovery procedures for uploading the ios via xmodem now.
