WDS only on 2k8?
Is WDS only available from 2k8? I'm going to be deploying about 45 Win7 pc's, looking for a good deployment solution.

blargoe Member Posts: 4,174 ■■■■■■■■■□You can install it on 2003 (I think it comes with 2003 R2? SP2?) We were running it on 2003 for a while. However, I don't know whether you could deploy Windows 7 from a 2003 WDS.IT guy since 12/00
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -
Hyper-Me Banned Posts: 2,059You can install WDS on 2003, and you can deploy 2000/XP/Vista/7 with it as well.
There are some versioning differences when used on varying OS'
2003: all the regular stuff
2008: has the 2003 stuff as well as multicasting
2008 R2: Has previous version stuff as well as segmented multicasting (puts slower clients on seperate streams), and dynamic driver provisioning. -
