Got my first smart phone, and app recommendations?

I finally broke down and picked up a HTC Hero that runs Google Droid OS.

I'm going to be upgrading the 2GB micro SD card in the next few weeks, however I'm really taking a liking to it. My friend has an iPhone and he said that getting a smart phone will change everything for you.

With that said, can anyone recommend any apps for it?

Also, how secure are the apps that your downloading for the phone? What about security for the phone?
