MCP When do we qualify to put it below our names

I've been noticing how some people use the MCP to designate passing certain exams. At what point do we use MCP? Is it just after we have taken a certain level of exam? Does the MCTS:70-620 qualify me to use this designation or do I need to wait until I've completed 70-640 or one of the higher certs?
No longer work in IT. Play around with stuff sometimes still and fix stuff for friends and relatives.

MCP i believe is for the older exams pre server 2008. I've taken the 2003 exams and the 2008 exams. but only after i did the 2003 did i earn the MCP. I think the 2008 exams give you access to the MCP website but do not earn you the MCP designation. Someone correct me if i'm wrong

From: Microsoft Learning: Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS):

The term MCP is used both as a general term for all Microsoft Certified Professionals and as the name of a credential. As an MCTS, you become part of the Microsoft Certified Professional community, with access to all related benefits, information, and activities. You do not earn a credential titled "MCP." You should use the MCTS credential on your resume and in business collateral, thereby indicating your specialty and that you are a member of the MCP community at large.

This is correct. The MCP specific certification has been phased out, but was a specific cert tied to demonstrating proficiency in a microsoft technology. It is a rough corollary to the new MCTS credential. For more about the new structure of Microsoft certification the Microsoft dot com / learning site is good, as is the born to learn blog.
