Can somebody help me i'm having a tough time with deployment I have read through the MS Press book and the pocket winodws 7 administrator book and still need some stuff clearing up.
What are the steps to deploy a image sucessfully? can somebody create a list for as to what tools are needed and a brief explanation of what the tool does, secondly a step by step brief guide that takes you through the process of imaging a computer
i.e
Steps to image computer
get wim image use sysprep etc,
Obivously the above isn't in the right order but I need to understand at the minute I am getting confused, why do I need to use Sysprep? or Dism? or Wim?
Many Thanks

I dont think deployment concepts can be summarised into such a conscise form as you would like considering you arent clear on all of the concepts. Your best bet is to look at the below resources:

Imaging and deploying Win7 is absolutely nothing like XP.
You need is a WinPE type boot disk with Imagex that is compatible with your hardware architecture, x86 or x64. Use imagex with the /capture switch to capture the .wim to a storage medium. I use an external hard drive and not over the wire to my WSIM/MDT server. A 6GB image takes too long to push over a 100MB lan. Then you use the /apply switch to deploy the image to target machines. If you are going to do an unattended installation, you'll need to know about WSIM. Knowing MDT 2010 wont hurt either.
To put things in perspective, it has taken me about 3 weeks to get a good image working. The documentation that MS provides is very poor and the sysprep tool isnt 100% operational. I'll try to help you as much as I can.
All I can say is, be prepared for a lot of trial and error.
To get you started, read up on the Windows Automated Installation Kit. -

You don't need to format it to hold images, but its likely you will end up with some images over 4GB and therefore you will want the drive to be NTFS if it isnt already. (or exFAT, but then you cant use it in any XP machine again) -

rwwest7 Member Posts: 300Just use Symantec Ghost. After re-imaging run the slmgr -rearm command and you're all set.
