3rd Switch Selection

I want to purchase a 3rd switch for my CCNA lab. I have (2) 2950C-24's, I could get a 2950-12 for $45 or another 2950C-24 for $65. Is it worth the extra $20 for the 2950C?

As if you were reading my mind. I was just looking at some 2950's myself.

Let me ask you. When you create vlans, do you have to go into vlan database mode like the 2900XL switches? Or can you just type:

    interface vlan 10

And it creates the vlan for you? Also, I see that you have the 2950C-24, that's the EI image right? Your switch supports RSTP?

2950's use the newer method of vlan creation

    vlan #

interface vlan # (creates a switched virtual interface for that vlan)

    I have a 2950C it support's RSTP

as for a third switch, seeing as you already have two 2950's you'd probably be better off saving up for a 3550 for layer 3 stuff.

if you are on a budget then the 2950-12 would do the job.

Awesome, I haven't pulled the trigger on any 2950's yet because I feared they were going to be like my 2900XL's....I'll go ahead an pick one up....

I'd recommend a 2950G so you can play with path costs with STP or save up for a 3550 if you think you will continue your Cisco studies past the CCNA level.

I couldn't help myself so I picked up a 3550-24. I think I have a few too many switches now.

Is there a for sale/trade forum on this website?
