If I mounted a VHD to a computer and wanted users to have read only premission to it would I do this via NTFS permissions?

Thanks

I believe so. a VHD is just a file type like any other, so it can have permissions set to it.

I dont know that they will be able to launch it and work in it properly if its read only, though.

I guess you could setup the NTFS permissions at the root of the drive (i.e. d:\) once mounted. Will that fit the bill? I can't think of a better way to do it...

    I missed the mount part.

Why not try marking the file itself as Read-only in its attributes?

Just a thought - if you make the .VHD file read only as an attribute, features like Previous Versions of Files may not work. I guess that is highly irrelevant, because if you are making the files read only it won't matter. Then again, if you want certain users to be able to create files and others not...
