L3 Switching Vs Multilayer

Hi,
what is the difference between layer 3 switch and multilayer switch?

    the difference is that with the name "multilayer" switch there is not specified on what layer it operates (it can be layer 3 or even higher) while "layer 3" switch specifies that its a layer 3 switch :)

    I think a L3 switch can route at the L3 level. A multi layer switch can do route cacheing but can't actually do the routing itself without another device to make the decision for it. The CBT Nuggets videos do a good job of explaing the difference.

    There are some switches that can go all the way up to Layer 7, though I've never run into one.
