PSTN Cloud setup/Config

I am trying to get my lab PSTN Cloud up and running an am totally confused by the DOCs.
The routers that will effectively form the cloud and their hardware config are below.
1760 Router 128D/48F (w/ 1 PDM4 and 1 PDM12 DSPs)
Cisco IOS Software, C1700 Software (C1700-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(15)T11, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
1 FastEthernet interface
1 Serial interface
1 Serial(sync/async) interface (WIC-1T in Slot1)
1 Channelized T1/PRI port (VWIC-1MFT-T1 in Slot2)
WIC T1-DSU (WIC-1DSU-T1 in Slot0)
3640 Router 128D/32F/20PCMCIA
Cisco IOS Software, 3600 Software (C3640-IK9O3S-M), Version 12.4(25a), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
2 Ethernet interfaces (NM-2E2W in Slot0)
4 Low-speed serial(sync/async) interfaces
16 terminal lines
1 Channelized T1/PRI port (NM-1CT1-CSU in Slot1)
The 3640 was previously used by a local ISP for dial in access and voice. When I frist started my CCNA studies, I used the NM-1CT1 to interface with another router with a WIC-1DSU-T1 in data mode.
I have tried using the Cisco Press "IP Telephoney Using CallManager Express Lab Portfolio" to do the configs, but I cannot seem to get things configured so the 2 routers can talk.
I am able to get the pri-group on the 3640 configured and
But when I try to do the same thing on the 1760 I get:
Is there something I am missing?

The 3640 as mentioned earlier allows me to set up the pri-group. It has no option for Ds0-Group.
The 1760 offers the option of both pri- and ds0-groups, but when I try to set up the pri-group I get:
Hermesz_VoIP(config-controller)#pri-group timeslots 1-12
%Controller tdm clock does not have data capability
Hermesz_VoIP(config-controller)#
Then, if If I try to modify the controller tdm clock to handle both voice and data, I get the following:
Hermesz_VoIP(config)#tdm clock t1 2/0 both export line

azaghul Member Posts: 569 ■■■■□□□□□□I had a similar problem using a 1760 as my PSTN cloud. It's actually a hardware limitation to which slots/ports it will deliver clocking.
I'm glad I never throw anything away.
hxxp://www.mail-archive.com/ccie_voice@onlinestudylist.com/msg04244.htmlThe 1760 router is only capable of using 2 ports for data. Cisco has a document on the 1760 that explains this limitation. This includes a voice PRI as it considers this data since one channel is data. If you need more than 2 voice circuits you'll need to configure the others as T1 CAS. If you change "both" to "voice" it will allow the controller to create a CAS T1/E1.
Here's my cut down 1760 PSTN basic connectivity config, you'll need to substitute your E1/T1 as required and add the dial peers. This is about as far as I got with the "proof of concept" before using a 2691 for PSTN instead.isdn switch-type primary-net5 tdm clock E1 0/0 both import onboard internal tdm clock E1 0/1 both import onboard internal tdm clock T1 1/0 voice import onboard internal ! controller E1 0/0 pri-group timeslots 1-5,16 description *** PRI Link To ZEUS Router *** ! controller E1 0/1 pri-group timeslots 1-5,16 description *** PRI Link To HERA Router *** ! controller T1 1/0 framing esf linecode b8zs ds0-group 0 timeslots 1-5 type e&m-wink-start description *** CAS Link To ARES Router *** ! ! interface Serial0/0:15 description *** PRI Signaling Channel To ZEUS Router *** no ip address encapsulation hdlc no logging event link-status isdn switch-type primary-net5 isdn protocol-emulate network isdn incoming-voice voice no cdp enable ! interface Serial0/1:15 description *** PRI Signaling Channel To HERA Router *** no ip address encapsulation hdlc no logging event link-status isdn switch-type primary-net5 isdn protocol-emulate network isdn incoming-voice voice no cdp enable ! ! voice-port 0/0:15 ! voice-port 0/1:15 ! voice-port 1/0:0

hermeszdata Member Posts: 225Azaghul,
Thanks! Actually, I finally said the heck with it and pulled the WIC-1DSU-T1 from slot 0 and moved the VWIC-MFT-T1 there. Once in place, I was able to get the pri-goup set up. I had forgotten that only slots 0 and 1 would work for WICs/VWICs and slot 1, 2, and 3 supported VICs.
I am trying to get some more configs done now. I use the 3640 as a true multi service platform in the lab.
Service #1 = Terminal Server (NM-16A w/2 Octal Cables)
Service #2 = Frame Relay Switch (NM-4A/S = WIC-2T)
Service #3 = Branch Office Router
Service #4 = Branch Office VoIP CME 4.1
I think I should probably move the NM-16A to the lone 2610 (non-XM), and drop in the spare NM-2V w/ VIC-2FXO and VIC-2FXS once I remove the NM-16A. I need to get another FXS card. (I have a second but it is in my main VoIP Router for the apartment.)
I will copy the configs you posted and see where that takes me.

Voice Lab includes:
1 - 1760V 128D/64F IOS 12.4(15)T11, VWIC-1MFT-T1, WIC-1DSU-T1, VIC-2FXO, VIC-2FXS (this router is my main VIOP for the house/office)
1 - 2610XM 184D/48F, IOS 12.4(15)T11, WIC-1T, NM-2V (slots empty)
1 - 3640 128D/32F/20PCI, IOS 12.4(25a), NM-2E2W,NM-2V w 1 VIC-2FXO, NM-4A/S (This is my Frame Relay Router as well)
1 - 1760 128D/48F, IOS 12.4(15)T11, VWIC-1MFT-T1, WIC-1T, VIC-2FXS
1 - VG200 64F/16D, IOS 12.3(26), NM-1CT1-CSU(PRI)
1 - 2620 64D/32F, IOS 12.3(22)
3 7910 phones and 2 7960 phones, 1 Cordless (POTS) phone. None of the thrift stores have "shitty phones" (standard wired phones) and I need a couple more!
So ... it looks like a need a couple more items to get this setup working the way I need it to!
The CCNA:Voice LAB book calls for an "AdTran 550" for a PSTN simulator. eBay prices between $500 and $800 with the necessary interfaces! Nice to have, but is it worth the cost in the long run?
1 - AIM-Voice-30 - $100 to $200 - could install in VG200 to use as the PSTN Cloud and adding the following:
1 - VWIC-2MFT-T1
1 - VWIC-2MFT-E1
Then for installation in the other routers:
2 - VWIC-1MFT-E1
and a couple more FXO/FXS cards.
All the above info came about while researching WHY I could not set up my NM-1CT1-CSU to handle Voice traffic. To use this module for voice, I would need an AIM-Voice-30 module in the router the NM-1CT1 is installed in.
Nothing like learning the HARD WAY! At least the information will stick permenantly!
