About Read and List Folder Contents Permission

If I assign List Folder Contents permission its almost perform as Read permission. Like viewing folder and folder contents, opening a file. After opening a file assigned the permission with List Folder Contents it gives me the chance to save the file with a different name. So it is the same as Read permission. This is not very clear to me. I wondering help form somebody.
