Do I have the right understanding of Active Directory Terminology?
Am I right in saying, "a Root Domain/Parent Domain & Child domain make up a Tree within a Forest?"
And that "a Forest only has one Global Catalog?"
How do I upload my image of my example on this site? Webmaster could you help me out?
Thanks,
D-boy

Here is a breakdown of the FSMO roles:
Domain Naming Master = only 1 per Forest
Schema Master = only 1 per Forest
Infrastructure Master = 1 per domain
RID Master = 1 per domain
PDC Emulator = 1 per domain
Global Catalog = at least 1 per SITE but cannot be on the same server as infrastructure master. Global Catalogs aid authentication processes so that they do not have to cross WAN links.

One more question - In a forest, all objects of the same type share the same properties (schema)? What does that mean? -
hhisgett Member Posts: 181My understanding is that it means that the objects are all located in the same active directory database. One forest = one active directory database = all domain trees share the AD db.
