Can't install HotFix needed for SQL 2008
I have a laptop that I am trying to install sql 2008 on. I get an error saying that Dotnet framework and updated MS installer needs to be installed first.
I have downloaded both, and both start to run that get an error message saying access denied. This is on XP SP3 and run under the administrator account. Google doesn't give much help. Anyone run across this before and found a way to fix it?

You can not install the full edition on windows xp.
I had the same issue with visual studio, it will start installing then gives an error not related to the OS version. -

Thanks to more digging, the following page helped tremendously:
Solving setup errors by using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions - Aaron Stebner's WebLog - Site Home - MSDN Blogs
By running the SubInACL program and creating a new reset.cmd file I was able to reset security issues that kept sql 2008, Windows Installer from working. Now this machine ahs a successful running installation.
