I don't really like the Celeron either, and I was thinking of going for the P4 upgrade for another $99, but now you're talking more $$ than it costs jst to build a cheap server yourself. Although, I currently have an AMD and a Celeron in my lab, so I suppose another wouldn't hurt. I'm just trying to pay off some room on my credit card to pick one up. I figure, if anything breaks, Dell has to support it, right? Well, at least to some extent. Either way, it's a good deal at $299, but no higher. If it does go higher, I'm out.

Yeah, the Cel is more than enough for a home server. Don't be like me and go overboard:

    Athlon XP 2400+
    640 megs RAM
    20 gb system drive
13.5 gb data drive (for music-- it's a MP3 server as well!)
Mirrored 80 gig drive holding redirected folders for all 4 of us users.
(Really, this is a learning experience. My tax guy says as long as I am taking exams I can deduct the costs on all but one machine....)

    Take it as-is.... add a P4 later.
I'm not a complete idiot... some parts are missing.
