I'm trying to config sub interfaces on a 2620xm ios 12.2, but it doesn't recongnize the 'encapuslation dot1q' command. I read that is has to be a fe link which it is, also, the ios should support dot1q, what am i missing here?

What IOS Feature Set (and version) do you have on that 2600XM? A show version command should tell you.

You need at least an IP Plus Feature Set to support 802.1q trunking

What Mike was asking for was the full name of the IOS image, which you will find under the output from show version. For example:

    System image file is "flash:c2600-i-mz.122-28.bin"

You just have IP Base feature sets -- so no 802.1q support.

The amount of Memory and the size of your FLASH (and your ability to get IOS images) may limit what IOS Feature Set/Versions you can run.

Check out the IOS Feature Navigator to get an idea of the Memory/Flash requirements for more advanced Feature Sets
