Cannot open MS websites

Im having a rather strange problem on my work pc. I cannot navigate to any MS websites with IE (windowsupdate, technet, microsoft.com etc). This started on my previous PC, and because it was dying anyway, I went ahead and swapped it out.

I am in a W2k3 domain, IE8, WinXPsp3 with all updates. My machine is the only one that cannot access them. I have run the latest spybot, adaware, and Avast and none of them found a thing.

I have read thread upon thread from google searches with the exact same problem but no solutions.

Uninstall IE8 (for now)
and following the instructions in the link:
Downloaded Explorer 8 and now it won't open [Solved]
