CIW Cert Change

Wonder how this will affect WGU and the program lay out?

New CIW Certification Programs
Dear CIW Partner:

Over the past year, we have worked closely with valued partners and key members of the industry, focusing on the value of the CIW certification and its associated offerings. As a result of these discussions, I'm proud to announce our redesigned certification roadmap . I'd like to explain a few details that might be of interest to you.
• We have changed our policy so that you no longer need to pass multiple CIW exams to earn a single certification. Now, each time you pass a CIW exam, you will receive a CIW certification. Technologists and educators alike have encouraged us to take this step. Why? Because individuals can now show potential employers how they have obtained essential skills along the way. It is vital for CIW to help individuals prove they are ready for today's job roles in Web design and development. Earning more certifications also helps you track your progress through each step of your career.
• We have also made some small changes to the existing CIW Associate certification. We have renamed this certification to CIW Web Foundations Associate. To earn this designation, you have two exam paths available to you: You can take the full 1D0-510 exam that we have traditionally offered, or you can take three modular exams, each a third of the traditional 1D0-510 exam. Passing each one of these modular exams earns you the Associate certification corresponding to that discipline. Feedback from our partners has indicated that individuals need more ways to validate their skills as they continue through the learning path, and we want to accommodate this need.
• In addition, CIW Web Foundations Associate is no longer a prerequisite for any subsequent CIW certification. However, it is still highly recommended. Partners such as Western Governors University (WGU) and others highly value this certification, and we are proud of how well it evaluates an individual's ability to evolve from merely consuming to actually producing on the Web.
• We've renamed many of our certifications and courses in an effort to make the CIW roadmap and its associated offerings easier to understand. For example, our CIW Site Designer exam (1D0-520) and its associated Design Methodology and Technology course now share one name: CIW Web Design Specialist. I'm confident that, although these changes may cause you a moment's pause, you will see that they result in a program that is far easier to understand.
• Finally, I want to announce that effective June 30, 2011, we will no longer be awarding certain certifications. We have decided to grant a long lead time to ensure that customers still teaching/ taking some of these programs over the next few months can complete them with CIW certification. For more information about the exams that will no longer be available, please visit our Exam Retirement page.
I'd like to invite you to visit our Certified Internet Web Professional | Standards for Success Web site to learn more about the benefits that our redesigned CIW program offers you. We have created a CIW FAQ to help explain the changes we have made. But don't stop there. Feel free to contact your customer representative, or me. We are excited to tell you more about how we've helped CIW further evolve to serve your interests.

Sincerely,
