Well known ports?
jpkennedy79
Is it necessary for the Sec+ exam to be able to distinguish between if the Port that a well known service or protocol uses is a UDP or TCP port? Or is it sufficient to just know the port? For example SNMP uses UDP 161 & 162. Would it be enough just to know the actual port only? Thanks.

The port numbers should be sufficient, but I would learn whether they use TCP or UDP whether it shows up on the exam or not.

It can not be bad if you know both,I mean the port number and if it is UDP or TCP,because these things will always come in several exams(Network+,Sever+,MCSE,etc...) so it can not hurt if you know all.

And you only need to remember whether it's UDP or both UDP and TCP for a given port, the rest will be TCP only
