Could someone help me with a "good answer"?

in IT Jobs / Degrees
im filling out an application for a govt job.... theres no real job description other than "IT Specialist".... good troubleshooting, organization skills etc etc.... then this:

Narrative
Please provide a comprehensive response and include specific examples of your knowledge of IT Technology concepts, standards and methods.
* Required


how do i provide a comprehensive response to something so vague? anyone have an equally vanilla response i can add?

    No vanilla response for that. The job posting is vague so be as comprehensive in your answer as you can. I might also add to use proper grammar and spelling as well as sentence structure. Government jobs are a bugger to get, believe me, I know.

    What I would do is write out a summary of my skill set and specific work related examples that illustrate my skill set as well as my knowledge on specific IT subjects that may or may not relate to the job posting.

    good call.. i need to have something ready when im asked. copy/paste...edit where necessary.

    im very very new to the govt job thing. i find it very confusing actually, all the forms and applications and everything... every job has a different application process. im looking at usajobs and federalgovernmentjobs.us to try and find one. is that all you did?

    I look on USAJOBS but have not landed a government gig yet. I'm prior service, have a security clearance, Bachelors degree, experience and a CCNA and Uncle Sam most recently told me I failed to meet the requirements for an entry level network job. lol.

    In other words, unless you know someone in the position your looking for, it's almost impossible to get hired.

    hmm... that doesnt bode well for me then. let me ask you this, if you get a job in one area of govt, is it easier to land other govt jobs? even if its pretty obscure? i may have an interview at Department Of Health And Human Services Agency: Indian Health Servic. would that make it easier to get something at the division of homeland security for example?

    Practice here in the forums working on spelling and grammar...it's a forum, not a text message, so take your time and work on how you present yourself. Take your time and get used to typing out real words not text jargon. FWIW

    All joking aside, someone probably looked at it and said "this guy doesnt have an A+ listed".

    Probably. I have no intention of pursuing an A+ or Net+ either. I fail to see the value of it in my situation. The Sec+ is a different story all together.
