Rapid PVST and PT 5.3 issue

YahelYahel Member Posts: 42 ■■□□□□□□□□
Hello :)

Are there any bugs in PT with rapid-pvst or is it just me.... always having problems while configuring it, many loops there...and it doesn't work the way it should.... am I doing something wrong ?
In case there isn't a bug... can somebody send me a PT lab with rapid pvst .... I really need it, it bothers me for some time.

Even though I do Switch(config)#spanning-tree mode rapid-pvst
When I enter a Switch#show spanning-tree

it says "Spanning tree enabled protocol rstp"

Is that the way it should be ? :/

RSTP stands for Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol.

Works fine in PT for me.

Well it works for me also ... but not the way it should :)
    Check this out...

    Imageshack - 77438282.jpg

Ping from PC in VLAN 20 to another PC in VLAN 20 is successful ... but why is this frame arriving even at pc in VLAN 10. On it's way it almost reach all the PC's in the topology....
Is that the way RAPID PVST work... or do I miss something ? Because in regular stp it won't to this... it will simply travel from soure to destination without impacting other PC's.
So I guess there is a loop somewhere...

Edit: most of the pings are dying anc mac table isn't populated the way it should be

Can you post your config for both switches? The frame would only travel to PC3 if that port is in VLAN20 or the port is setup as a trunk.

Also, is that etherchannel setup or just redundant links?

Redundant links, but I miss typed and added this PC to the wrong VLAN ...
Fixed it and it works great now, thanks :) good troubleshooting skills there :)

Tried other topology and it works also...

So simple config. not much things to do...but 1 mistake... can give u a headache...that's the way STP works :D

    Thanks once again :)
