What do you do while you wait for an offer?

Hey guys,
Last Wednesday I had a great interview that really made me feel like I'd landed the job. The only problem is it's through a staffing company so I had to wait for all other candidates to interview and then await a final decision from both the client and staffing company.
This interview was the only time I had both the manager I interviewed with and the recruiter saying good things about me getting the job. The manager said he couldn't see why I wouldn't be hired and the recruiter assured me today that the initial response for me was very positive but they were waiting for an offer.
So what do you do to pass the time between interview and offer? I'm stewing here and granted, I know that it's possible that I might not get an offer at all, I just feel very positive about this one and it's just eating away at me as I continue to wait and wait and wait.

Also if you keep searching there's a good chance you'll find something even better. Two job offers on the plate is better than one.Jumping on the IT blogging band wagon -- http://www.jefferyland.com/ -

I've been offered lots of contract jobs where the start date kept changing -- or the project never happened.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
Michael.J.Palmer Member Posts: 407 ■■■□□□□□□□I've been looking continously and I'm already working a decent job (pay isn't great, but beggers can't be choosers right now). I do have a couple of day projects coming up for some bank decomissions so that'll pad the income a little bit. Of course if I get offered a job, I'll have to call up that company and tell them that I won't be available for those projects anymore.
Like I said though, I've got a good feeling about this job and I hope that I'm right about it. The position itself actually places me in charge of about five or six other people so that's exciting news for someone who just turned this into a career within the past couple of months.-Michael Palmer

Michael.J.Palmer Member Posts: 407 ■■■□□□□□□□Got a call from the recruiter about ten minutes ago and they've got an offer for me! I start September 10th for orientation and the following Monday after that will be my first real day on the job, so it's a couple of weeks ago.
I'll be making about 3 times more than I'm making right now at my current job when you take into account it's full-time (actually I'll probably get about 10 hours of over-time every week if what I was told during the interview holds true) and it's $5 more an hour, so it's exciting to say the least.
Now I just dread having to tell my current employer since I just started there no more than two weeks ago... but I figured that as soon as I do settle for a small job just to pay some of the bills that one of these big interviews will come through, lol.
But yeah, I'm excited, I'll keep you guys posted on how things go once I start.-Michael Palmer

You gotta do what you gotta do. Be sincere, thank them for the chance to work with them, and give 2 weeks if you can. (Which should be no problem given the extended start date).

Some companies use it as a trial period and will take you in after 6 months (or whatever the predetermined timeframe is) and others have no intention of ever hiring you. Both circumstances are of course better than being jobless, but with the second one you will likely be looking for a new job in the next 6-12 months to get better pay and benefits.Decide what to be and go be it. -
Michael.J.Palmer Member Posts: 407 ■■■□□□□□□□Looks like the contract is for a minimum of two months, but there's a chance that I'll be moved to another IT department after that two months is up just to keep me in there. I plan on trying to move up and up over the next six months anyways. My plan is to have my MCITP:SA no later than early October so at that point I'll be looking to try and get a Jr. Systems Admin position or something similar to that.
All in all I'm still excited about the job, my manager at the company seems to like me so I know that if I just do a great job and keep working hard that I might be able to stay on with the company in another position later down the road after the two months is up.-Michael Palmer

Devilsbane Member Posts: 4,214 ■■■■■■■■□□And even for a company that has no intentions of hiring you, if you do an awesome job they might change their mind. I think this is how I got my offer at my current job, well at least before the other people. (Some people have been contracting here for 2+ months more before me, and there were several that started at about the same time as me.)
I do good work (I can bring a lot to a help desk since I have an understanding of what the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th levels do), and I always walk into work with a book in my hand to read during lunch, and when they start seeing a new book they ask about the last one and I say that I passed the test. So maybe they were afraid that I was looking to jump ship and wanted to get me in a more permanent role with more pay?
I hope that everything works out for you.Decide what to be and go be it. -
